MUDLAB designed this house for a single person looking to live here into retirement. Situated just below the crest of a hill, the house takes advantage of views of the mountains to the north with a generous wall of glass that spans the entire north facade. The south face is more closed, creating a sense of compression and release as one moves through the front door. While the interior of the house is small, the sense of space is extended by a deep roof overhang that creates an outdoor room on the north side of the house. Inside, the bedroom is designed to be cave-like, with thick walls that provide refuge from the bright exterior landscape.
